Making a game: dev diary #4

You struggle and struggle and then… the world is at your fingertips!

Finding a system that works

I have been searching for a way to organize all the different notes I take. Since I work across Linux, Windows, and Mac, nothing seemed to work well on all devices without some kind of subscription fee…

I tried Notion, OneNote, and Goodnotes. And then I discovered Obsidian. I had already heard great things about it, but what I did not realize is that it works with plain .md files that live on your own device. Paired with Syncthing, I can now access my notes on all my devices — for free! 💜

It has also been better for my health, honestly. I can now easily work on my laptop outside in the garden instead of being stuck at my desk all day. Small thing, big difference.

A quieter period

It has been a bit quiet on the game development front. I needed to sort out my note organization first before I could really move forward — my brain does not do well with loose ends like that. And on top of that, some unforeseen personal circumstances meant I was not home for as long as I had planned.

But then — it worked! 🎉

I finally got my local AI set up. And I am so proud of myself. It took quite a few hours and a lot of troubleshooting, but it works!

Gemma is now hosted locally on my Omen Desktop. And thanks to Tailscale, I can access it through my laptop or phone from anywhere in the world. That last part still feels a little magical, honestly. 😄

What’s next

All that thinking and troubleshooting has left my brain a little fried. So for now I am going to shift focus to something more relaxing — drawing some cute fairies! 🧚
